The Ghosts of Plas Teg

Some of UK-Paranormal's researchers have been investigating Plas Teg's alleged hauntings for a number of years and most of this research is still ongoing. Information regarding our finds will soon be published on this page.

UK-Paranormal conduct regular vigils at Plas Teg for members of the public as we are Plas Teg's resident Paranormal Team. If you would like to book and evening to join us on a real investigation please contact us. We have our own historians that have worked at Plas Teg many years and will be able to provide a full background history of Plas Teg.

Reputedly one of Wales’ most haunted houses. This 17th Century Jacobean Manor, is said to hold within its walls and grounds at least 15 ghosts.
Apart from being a residence to important personages in history, it was also reputed to be used as a local court, were people would be tried and convicted of often menial crimes and it is told that some were even hanged there although we have found there to be no historical evidence to back up this claim. It is also claimed to have been a sanatorium during another period in history. It is also said to have housed soldiers during the period of WW2.

Plas Teg yields some extremely fascinating aspects of paranormal activity and UK-Paranormal have been using various new investigative techniques to further research the alleged claims for quite some time. One of which is a laser system, which UK-Paranormal have been using for the past couple of years and is pioneered by our technical advisor, Paul Rowland who's ingenuity in this field of research and has produced some fascinating results. We also have been using the 'enhanced human night vision' system which uses the more sensitive blue/ultraviolet light using an adjustable pulse frequency, which has yielded once again some fascinating results. Please visit Paul's website:
Paradox Electronics  for more info. Photographs using this technique will appear on our website shortly.

Plas -Teg can be as active in the day as much as it can be at night. To be pushed, prodded and touched by those unseen is a common event, by day or night. Many visitors have witnessed having ‘seen’ or have felt the presence of someone from another period in time. They have been astounded and some express shock that they have witnessed this for themselves. It appears that some of the strongest emotional events at Plas -Teg has imprinted itself into the fabric of the building, the emotional experiences of the occupants of days gone by are regularly felt by visitors to the house. Some people might feel very uneasy, nauseous, despair, or are brought to tears suddenly for no apparent reason. Not all emotions experienced are negative as some are extremely uplifting and joyful. Footsteps, talking, whisperings and knockings are but some of the things that can be heard around the mansion and regularly is heard the giggling of children and woeful tears of another.

Most spirits come in visitation, a couple are grounded and quite a number are residual hauntings. The hauntings are from various times of the buildings history, but all echoing their existence of their past lives in connection with Plas Teg.

The Grounds:

The A541 runs through what was once the grounds that also belonged to Plas Teg and it is here amongst its ancient burial grounds that UK-Paranormal will be continuing further research. Local stories of exorcisms conducted in the near locality of Plas Teg have prompted this research to take place as it documented that a well known exorcist from the last century was to rid an 'evil entity' from a nearby house and by method of ceremony was to cast it into a local river entrapped in a glass bottle. On conclusion to his method here the entity was to be deemed to be safe until the river should run dry and the bottle broken. The location of where this occurred is well documented and is inspiring us to research this further from a historical point of view.

There is said to be 3 men on horseback that are seen in the area of Plas Teg's grounds around dusk during the months of September and October. Reports of a ghost has been seen on the road (A541) directly outside Plas Teg, unfortunately because of these reported sightings, many accidents have occurred and is a now known accident 'black spot' The local police are aware this area being notorious for sightings after many call outs to accidents where the victims have reported a woman on the road which seemed to disappear.
A young woman has been seen to roam the grounds. Dressed shabbily in grey and with dark, long flowing hair which she covers with a tattered shawl, she carries a bundle in her arms. She has be known to ask people to help her before disappearing amongst the trees. Maybe she is the girl who reputedly fell to her death in Plas Teg's well.
An old man is seen to sit near the hedge, near the one of the former exits on the left of the building dressed in 16th century style clothing. He is known to be called Owen Howell and is also known to frequent the 'hanging room'

At the entrance to the lane that leads to Plas Teg keep a look out for the ghost of the watchman, he hung himself after finding out that his lady was being unfaithful... (two people have reported having seen a pair of legs at the spot were the Guard Box use to be). Lone drivers going home at night might find themselves with an extra passenger. Apparently a young lady gets into your passenger seat then promptly disappears at the main road.

Black hooded figures have been seen within the ground of Plas Teg and in the field opposite the main entrance. Some say they are waiting to be invited into Plas Teg. On one public evening a young lady went to the main door at Plas to go outside for a cigarette.. she quickly came back in saying she had just witnessed a black hooded figure glide away from front door and through the unopened gate at the bottom of the gravel path before disappearing into the field.

Workmen that were fixing the roof of Plas Teg were astonished one day after a conversation with the owner, Cornelia.. They asked her who the little girl belonged to that was running around the trees dressed in a yellow dress.. the answer being there are no children here today at Plas.

The House:

The Great Chamber:    A Spanish lady dressed in a flowing red gown haunts the main staircase and the Great Chamber and has often been seen looking out of the window in this room. Her presence has been felt by a few people as she swiftly walks past unsuspecting visitors as they report hearing a rustling of a dress and the feeling of fabric passing over them.
Three soldiers have been seen in the Great chamber playing a game of cards near the far door opposite the main fire place. People have also reported having seen an Army officer walking the landing near the grand staircase. The smell of cigar smoke is common in the Great Chamber, specifically near the fire place and near to the main windows at the front of the house. The harp in this room has been heard to play one or two notes of its own accord.  Children have been heard to giggle in the daytime in this room as they seem to pass through unseen.
The children seem to play hide and seek in this room. Frequently are reports of children's giggles. The doors have been seen to open and slam shut by themselves. There is also a residual haunting of a gentleman who stands by the fireplace. It is to the back of the room and out the window that people often see a young woman wandering the garden. Its believed she is looking for the lost Jewels of Plas Teg. The main fireplace which dates back to when the house was constructed in 1610 has 'witches' markings carved into it, it was to be believed that in doing so it protected the occupants from evil entering the house specifically through the chimney.

The Main Staircase:    The wood from the main staircase originates from the Spanish Armada and it is here that the children often play here too, peeping through the bars at the public below, taunting them and playing games. A medium once witnessed a boy and girl here daring each other to do something to one of the guests, the boy came downstairs crept round the group of guests and promptly knocked a cup of coffee out of one of the guests hand. You often come across the butler here too, he has reportedly pushed passed people as he goes on his way and can become irritated by publics presence. He will often be heard to sign or groan in disapproval. One gentleman on a day time tour was making his way downstairs when he had his hat tipped off  his head, others report being poked and even pushed down stairs.

The Twin Poster Bedroom:    In the twin poster bedroom on the upper floor, voices of children are heard and are they are occasionally seen in this room. A feeling of great oppression is often felt in here, many people report feelings of being overwhelmed and can become very tearful here.

The Panelled Bedroom:    In the panelled bedroom, sightings of a young child that tended to the fires and sightings of one of the former owners a Sir John Trevor and his wife have been seen and their presences are frequently felt. The atmosphere in this room can change dramatically too, from being pleasant to oppressive in a matter of a moments. We have had reports of people feeling as if they are being closely scrutinized and many people have become unwell in this room as a feeling of suffocation surrounds them. The adjoining bathroom is quite active too with noises and shadows from here being seen from the panelled room. Temperature recordings in this room have been exceptionally significant as sudden huge drops in temperature have been recorded.

Court Room/ Hanging Room:    On the ground floor in the reputed ‘Hanging Room’ and 'Court Room', the presence of Sir George John Jeffries is occasionally felt, he was better known as the ‘Hanging Judge’. He supposedly held small court sessions here and sentenced criminals to their death in this room. Again people feel they are being watched and have been touched in this room. Some report to feel very dizzy in these rooms. Faces have been seen peering in at the windows on a regular basis in this room. Growls of a dog and black shadowy figures move around the room. A witness reports to have been honoured to witness a lady dressed in a large blue dress in this room. she moved gracefully towards the hanging room. She was described as having a shawl over her arms, hair reddish brown and tied into buns either side of her head. EVP recordings of a woman's voice have been made in this room. She has been heard to say "hello" followed by "oh God no" Could she be one of the unfortunate people who were sentenced to there death in this room? Cupboard doors open by themselves and lights have switched on by themselves. The spirit of Owen Howell often frequents this room and seems to be quite a disgruntled character, preferring to interact only with male visitors.

The Parrot Bedroom:    In the parrot bedroom, people are often reporting the smell of antiseptic and hearing the cries of a newborn infant. Occasionally feelings of intense nausea grip the inhabitants of the room. Sometimes in passing of this room from out in the corridor, cries of pain can be heard coming from the room. Sounds of a woman humming lullaby's, smells of nappies and baby sick, reported to have been the nursery of the house.

The Blue Room:    Sounds of screams reported in here and is reported to have been the birthing room (possible from time its reputed Plas was used as a refuge for unmarried mothers) A young girl who stands by the fireplace has been seen here numerous times day and night. Solid figures have been witnessed to enter this room but when followed no one is there.

The Regency Bedroom:    This bedroom is another hotspot for activity. Again feelings of oppression are experienced and many sighting are made in here. Feelings of not being alone is common and breathing and footsteps are heard. It is in here, in the adjoining bathroom that by day or by night the mirror is seen to move. Two ladies from different periods also haunt this room. One who is from the Trevor's family and the other is there with her high ranking soldier husband. The 5th Sir John Trevor still makes himself know in this room - he murdered his wife by strangling her after finding out she was having an affair and is rumoured that he hid her under one of the beds. He then went off in a blind rage riding on his horse and trap trying to make it over turn, he succeeded in killing the horse out right. He was not so fortunate and was badly injured. He was carried into the regency room by his staff, after suffering a month of agony before passing at the age of 26. The bedroom also holds the spirit of the above  mentioned lady.

The Long Gallery:    The long gallery is the main corridor on the upper floor which the various above mentioned bedrooms are off.  A man of the cloth has been seen walking from the second level, up the small flight of stairs, to the third level, who then continues to walk the long corridor passing all the bedrooms as he goes. Prior to his presence the air is filled with the smell of incense. Lots of unexplained shadows are seen moving and noises are heard in this area. A main study/research area in particular as lots of unusual anomalies are witnessed here.

The above occurrences are a collection of reports and witness statements from paranormal researchers and visitors alike from over a period of many years. The reports have been witnessed and reported many, many times, therefore are worthy and substantial enough to be included here.

UK-Paranormal research is ongoing and any additional information will be added here.
