EVP recording equipment
Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP)
is the recording of intelligible voices on an audio recording medium that
has no known physical explanation. The voices are thought to be from the
Spirits of deceased people. Any audio recording equipment will suffice to
record EVP. Some people appear to be better at recording EVP than others.
With patience and especially good listening techniques, it should be
possible to record and listen to the EVP messages. Probably the best
recording instrument these days is the MP3 player/recorder, especially the
type with the voice/noise activated control. This saves the laborious task
of having to sit listening to 1/2/3 hours of 'recording' just to find
nothing recorded. With voice activation control anything caught ‘on tape’ is
there right at the beginning of the recording.
The recorded voices may be very quiet and are often difficult to hear and
understand at first, but with perseverance can be heard and even be
distinguished as male or female. Messages may be spoken very quickly,
usually just a few words and normally lasting only a few seconds. The worst
thing to happen to the image of EVP recording was the film "White Noise"
which portrayed EVP as possibly something to be afraid of. We found this
EVP guide
which might help explain how you can experiment with EVP yourself.
Motion Detectors
Useful when setting up trigger objects or locked off camera’s in an attempt
to catch any evidence on film. These will sound an alarm should the beam be
broken, and you can be sure no-one has been and tampered with the
experiments. They can be manually controlled or by remote control, remote is
definitely handy if you have a very active spirit!
Thermometers
One of the main pieces of equipment used in base
line checks of all areas reportedly experiencing paranormal activity.
Essential for taking the
temperature in a room, and an easy way of checking out cold spots or sudden
drops or rises in temperature. Air temperature thermometers are excellent
for checking the air temperature of a room, or cold spots etc. The probe on
the end (usually at the end of a piece of wire or extendable ‘aerial’ are
held out and the temperature of the air around is taken. Ideally all
equipment of this nature should have a back light display for ease or
reading in dark places.
Infra red thermometers give you the temperature of whatever the beam
touches, so it cant give you the temperature of a room, but should someone
comment on they are feeling cold/hot, for example, could be investigated
using this device.
Paranormal Investigators Tip:
The Drained Battery Phenomena
Some paranormal investigators have reported battery-powered equipment to "go
flat" (batteries lose their power) for no apparent reason when working in a
haunted location. This can happen, even when batteries have just been
replaced. Why not employ standard scientific procedure and use a "control"
experiment alongside the investigation equipment? In this scenario, a
charged "standalone" battery could be independently monitored using a
voltmeter (or multi-meter). Voltmeters typically have very high input
impedance, which could not cause or explain a sudden discharge of the
battery being monitored. Such an experiment could easily be arranged with a
low cost multi-meter a PP3 battery and a PP3 battery clip.
